RALEIGH, NC -- In 1833, North Carolina’s Freemasons’ Grand Lodge set the cornerstone of North Carolina’s new Capitol. The building was opened in 1840. In 1933, the Masons helped the state celebrate the centennial of the cornerstone by setting another in 1933. In June we saluted the 175th anniversary of the building opening.
The jewel Grand Master Doug Caudle wears is the same one worn when the first cornerstone was set in 1833.
